High drama, war-time intrigue and plenty of twists and turns

GWL Publishing is pleased to announce its latest publication, “Separation” by Carole McEntee-Taylor.

Available as a paperback and e-book, the novel is inspired by the true stories of the author’s parents-in-law, and is the first of a five part series, entitled Lives Apart: A World War Two Chronicle. Told from various perspectives, this novel recounts the personal experiences of several different characters and how the German invasion of France and the British retreat from Dunkirk impacted on their lives.

In London, this first book features Joe Price, his fiancée Peggy Cooper and their friends as war approaches in the summer of 1939. Both keen to ‘do their bit’ for the war effort, neither of these young people has any idea of the impact the conflict will have on their lives, but they remain optimistic that nothing will keep them apart for long.

In France, meanwhile, Marcel Servier is forced by his terrified parents to flee the family home and search for the safety of England. En route he meets a family who clearly have more to hide than most and, while trying desperately to escape, he wonders whether he is really capable of surviving on his own.

These and other stories intertwine within this novel to reveal the heroism, horror and longing of the first few months of the war, when young people faced, for perhaps the first time in their lives, the fear of Separation.

“We are thrilled to be representing Carole and her novels,” says Steve Lawrance, co-founder of GWL Publishing. “She is already a respected writer of historical non-fiction, and her pedigree within this genre is second to none. The ‘Lives Apart’ series mixes high drama with war-time intrigue and plenty of twists and turns for all the characters. We’ve really enjoyed working with Carole on this series and feel sure that readers will warm to her style of writing.”
